well after a week of attempting to post in the comments page of your last post (IE seems to be having problems conversing with your blog(s) at the moment.
Your last post although a little saddening sounds the one of the most important that you have made on your wonderful blog. Hope everything goes to plan and that 2010 brings everything you hope for and more in the world of real things. Have looked to UW for comfort but have found it (as yet) to lack that something that has made this little corner of the virtual world so interesting. Thanks for sharing your unique look at portuguese way of life. Now go away and live your life and i hope you begin to take as much pleasure in experiencing the ordinary without having to share it with the world. Those around you will, i'm sure, take considerably more pleasue from sharing it with you than us virtuals By Bernardo at Saturday 21 November 2009
Hi Lucy,

Hi Lucy,
I stumbled across your site when google images for 'middle aged women' and found the lovely illustration of two topless bathers by the sea. I love your artwork and look forward to seeing more! By John at Friday 16 October 2009

Hi Lucy,
Thought you might be interested in blogging about my free creative housing co-op. LOVE to get more properties in Portugal up there! Take care. Rebecca. By gretchen ivey at Friday 28 August 2009
Lucy,
Do you attend Conestoga High School? I saw your art work on their site. Are you still producing art? I have a gallery in PA and am always looking for new artists. Please email me if you are interested. Thanks, Gretchen By Coop at Monday 03 August 2009
Hi Lucy, I really like your work and hope that this interests you and your readers. If you could give it a plug I would be very grateful.
I am attempting to amass a large collection of portraits of Frankenstein's Monster in as many different styles and in as many different media as possible as an ongoing art project. The only stipulation is that the size is 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches (standard artist trading card size) and that each card has name, date, location, title and anything else you care to add on the back. I welcome cards from both amateur and professional artists. I will be leaving blank cards with instructions and mailing address in galleries, colleges, art shops, on buses, handing them out in the street and wherever else I can think of. If you think you can spare the time to produce a little something, please send a portrait to: A Patchwork Of Flesh 45 Silversea Drive Westcliff on Sea Essex SS0 9XD United Kingdom Each card I receive will be uploaded at http://apatchworkofflesh.blogspot.com/ to produce an on-line gallery, I then hope to put on an exhibition of these cards in a gallery. I found your blog through Dan, at all that comes with it.
My family comes from Portugal, I made my first trip there in May 2009. I had the same sort of feelings toward the postoffice as you do to the bank. It took what seemed like forever to mail a postcard! Your pictures are beautiful and I will be back to read more By Amanda Jane at Monday 20 July 2009

It is responsible for my least productive day in the office in the 8 years i have been in Portugal but strangely one of the most interesting and worthwhile... whcih is just a little troublesome.... thats the problem with your site... it leaves you thinking!!

Looking over Ria Formosa....... have just googled nespera chutney (because I have just made some and wondered if anyone else had)... and found myself in a funny place that made a smile appear on my face (thank you!!). The chutney is delicious and makes a perfect addition to a plate of scrambled eggs!!! xxx

Boa tarde! Sou brasileira, e professora. Atenciosamente

It was years ago from a link in some kind of blog directory. I keep reading because I'm an expat too and live with a 'prof' and you often put to words my thoughts exactly. You always nail it in other ways as well and draw the best, cleverest and funniest pictures! I hate scrambled eggs, though (sorry!)

was led here via Phil Jupitus tweeting you ref that little film Bath IV, which led to my wondering ,is that the lucy i know? Twas! and so found this little gem of a repository of all things you. And very glad i did. love your style, Lucy, had really forgotten that you was "a bit arty" way back then, just remembered stripy t shirts, dungarees and the rest is an alcholic mist. I shall pop back to here from time to time to soak my work tired brain in this little oasis of calm. love to you and yours Ryk x

Lucy,
I either found you via Blaugastine or Wally Torta. I love your paintings and sketches; they've prompted me to start sketching again. I'm also fond of your rants and your inventive foul mouth. By Derek at Tuesday 17 March 2009
When I need a break from the stress of the office, I often find myself looking at your great illustrations, keep up the public service.

best wishes Jess xx By kim at Monday 02 March 2009
i followed from, i think, a comment you left at blaugustine, long long ago. i keep coming back for the images and the words, not hating you for your skills, not usually anyway, just hoping that i'll be able to do near as good work when i grow up. umm, if.

E logo aqui. Já não sou uma stalker anónima. Beijinho.

How ? uh... can't remember. But because of your terrific sens de l'humour, intelligence de l'observation, un tantinet grumble grumble mais ça vient avec le paquet, and talent, oui oui, I found myself needing a regular injection.
And I'll have to quote Mr Daddy Papersurfer : I thoroughly enjoy watching explosive devices. [unquote] Eta bifa é do melhor ! By Rogi at Friday 27 February 2009
You are the only person on earth who could possibly think that a sensible response to hate-mail would be to put up a guestbook.
'She's got more front than Tescos!", as my dear old nan would have said. And she'd be right, and that's one reason why I keep visiting. Your pictures are just slightly extremely great, too. That's another. And someone has to keep checking about the, well, you know, the d.o.g. My scrambled eggs - with salt, pepper and tabasco, on toast, but not overdone eggs, you know when the yellow bit goes all hard and light-yellow coloured? Not like that. But not too runny either. And never, ever, cold. Ew. (I'm scared of the captcha below before I have even tried it - that one looks forbiddingly difficult, but here goes - *after* a bit of Apple key+A insurance). :) By Jonathan Lumley at Friday 27 February 2009
Lucy, you are my absolute favorite blog, your drawings are glorious, your photographs wonderful, and your comments acerbic! Please continue to be so single minded, and I love English scrambled eggs!
By Peggy at Thursday 26 February 2009
I've been reading you for years now, although I seldom comment. I think I found you through a link on some "life in France" blog, and stayed to enjoy your wonderful drawings and your always interesting thoughts.
I've never been to Portugal, but hope to visit sometime in the next 20 years. I do like scrambled eggs, especially with grated cheddar cheese in them, but they can't be runny. By António at Thursday 26 February 2009
I've been reading your blogs for years, since the beggining of Unkempt Woman. Albeit being a regular, I seldom post replies, not shure why.
I'm Portuguese and I believe that Portugal lost many good things by being kept closed to the rest of the world so many years. Your observations about Portugal and the Portuguese bring a fresh perspective to the perennial debate about where Portugal is and where it should be going. I firmly believe that we are all the same people separeted by culture and the more we know each other the sooner this fact will be acknowledge by all. I like my scrambled eggs with a little milk, a pinch of salt and black pepper grinded on-the-spot. To be accompanied with freshly baked bread and black tea. Espero que continues Lucy. Força! By GPF at Thursday 26 February 2009
Ooh I would have to shovel the sands of time back to Unkempt Women for my first taste of your internet poly-wonder. It tumbled like a jewel from my googlings on Portugal and you have remained high on my bookmarks ever since. I was immediately taken by the quality of your illustration and this remains My Favourite Thing. I load the site in anticipation of a treat and there is often one waiting. You write well, on things that interest me, and keep up a fantastic tempo that means I have something good to look at or read nearly every day. I don't know how you do it but I am glad you do. So quirky, brill visual treats with Brit-in-Portugal themed writing keep me coming back.
What would I change? Sorry, you did ask that didn't you? I am sure you did. I cleaned my ears recently, can't be that. Anyway. I would like to see some commercial activity round here, with Portugalesque stuff advertised and bizniz gnerally getting on the Pepperwagon and reaching out to its audience. That would reassure me that you could carry on cranking out great stuff. Take one large egg, recently laid with great relief by a happy chicken. Poach or fry until the white is set but the yoke is not. Slide on to a thick slice of salty, moist cooked ham and perk with a spoon of coarse grain mustard. Do not bish. Avoid temptation to bosh. Just enjoy one of life's great partnerships. By Fi at Thursday 26 February 2009
Been a follower for years... in your old persona, but after vitriolica..

I discovered your delightful establishment on a recommendation of a relative who said your scrambled eggs were "to die for".
Having survived, I decided to hang around for two reasons 1) I love your piccies 2) I thoroughly enjoy watching explosive devices 3) I was hoping to learn 'stuff' including how to count apparently By Aditi at Thursday 26 February 2009

Not sure how I got here, but hello anyway. I usually read you via a reader and only jump right in if I simply /have/ to comment.
I like scrambled eggs, or at least I used to, but I don't eat them any more. If you are a new visitor, enjoy the colours. (and oh, how I hate validation codes. Always get them wrong first time) By stephen at Wednesday 25 February 2009

Hello Lucy,
Well I read your blog in Google Reader so I won't show up in your stats (Maybe). Anyway I enjoy reading your ramblings and I like your art, so two reasons. (I also found Wally Torta through you I think and I like his stuff too.) So good luck with everything. S. |
