the beginnings of my clothes emporium

In between other slightly more demanding jobs today, I did draw some laydees in dresses.  These are four vintagey, simple dresses that I am starting the longlist with.  The red one is the one I should like to live in all week in different colours.  The others are for other kinds of days. Opera days.  Tea party days.  Russian revolution days.

The best bit?  MY BLOODY HORRIBLE KNEES ARE COVERED.

More to come.  This is just me doodling.

(if you don’t know what this is about, pls read this previous post)

Don’t forget to draw some pants for those of us with ‘orrid ankles.

I like the green one! Maybe that top half with a bit of a below the knee flare as that length would be for tall people not short arses like me… :-)

    of course!

    Good suggestion!
All suggestions welcome (except from “the Perfect”)!

I like these. I’m all for Victorian housecoats to be worn on a permanent bloody basis.
For dresses, how about one finishing just below the knee, very 1940′s, and makes the legs look longer without showing knees innit. (I’m utterly sick of all these babydoll dresses with waistlines right under the boobs and hemlines *just* under the arse, and in som flimsy mimsy fabric that would probably catch fire if a mosqutio farted near you.)

ME TOO (baby doll knee exposing bastards)

and yes. there will be some.  you can count on it.

Brilliant. They’re a bit like the long-sleeved version of the dresses I live in throughout the summer.

Ooh those two later additions are slinky as minkies. I’d feel like the perfect housewife in the green one, scarily so, but fit to eat people in the red ‘Rita’. Fab.

I hope you can get the idea of the ground. Women complain all the time that clothes don’t fit them or suit them so there must be a market out there for someone who can make ones that do.

Not that it’s relevant to your particular project but a lot of my clothes are women’s clothes (I’m a man). The shirts and, especially trousers, fit me much better than the ones made for men with arses like barrage balloons.

I would love to see something for those of us who aren’t so ummmm…generous up front but still have the broad shoulders and back.  Love what you’ve sketched so far, very classic.

absolutely on the list! thanks Beth :)

Oh Yes Please! I’ll have the red one, perhaps a touch shorter, but no knees. And the green one, in exactly that green. It’s perfect. And oh go on then, I’ll try a rita for special occasions.

I love all of them, but the blue one is my favourite. Good work!!

L – I was wondering if you could email me on blog@loobynet.co.uk as I’ve a very small favour to ask you. Thanks.

Hi Lucy, It’s Lisa Thorpe.  I too have revolting knees : (
Sorry to see you left Facebook, my news feed is a lot less interesting now, boo hoo – however I totally get why you decided to bugger orf, fb is now little more than ‘Take a Break’ online, soooo dull : P
Was wondering if you’d had a chance to see Mary Portas take on clothes? Can’t remember what the series was called but she was bemoaning the fact that women of a certain age (40+) fall off the fashion radar completely.  But Mary Portas is a stick insect so much of her collection will probably fall short of your criteria! Good luck, there’s definitely a niche in the market.

How about mix n match pieces? The nice thing is, women can adjust the hem and sleeves, and fabric.

Ahem! And men can’t? :) Yes, the more complicated stuff I take to a dressmaker, but this man has made many alterations to my clothes, because of the same problem that 90% of us have – we don’t look like the mannequins on which mass-produced clothes are made. And I’m straight! How about that!

haha, yes, now that you mention it…men can do some adjusting too :-D
